Get up! Motivational Story

This post is about my grandmother and hopefully it will inspire you to get up and rise despite current challenges you may face.

My grandma has been born in 1935, she is almost 91. She was 6 when the Second World War hit her town, impacting her family forever. Luckily, her family survived the war including her mom, father and little brother. She grew up, moved to a big city (Donetsk), got married at 24 and had 2 children (one of which is my father). She has been married to my grandpa for 64 years until he died at the age of 87. She worked as a nurse at retired in early 1990s. She currently lives in Kiev, going through second war during her lifetime. Since the war in Ukraine started she had to move from the town she was living at the age of 86. She had to pack their belongings and left her appartment with her things. Then she was moved to retirement home where her husband died a week before her 87th birthday. She continues living through daily bombings of the city. But if it wasn’t enough, when she was 90, just before Christmas she fell and broke her hip. She could not get up to even sit and spent 6 months laying down. Many people of her age do not get up after a fall like this. She also had a heart attack 10 years ago. Are you depressed yet? I am depressed just writing about it.

Her son placed her in a retirement home again. She has to share room with 4 other women, most of which are dying (one died within one month of her being there). When I spoke on the phone with her she was wondering if it was her time to go. I told her she was there for a different mission and she has to get up just to piss people off. I sent her motivational and uplifting books and encouraged her the best I could.

The only thing my uncle did was to tie a shoe lace string to a bed. Nobody would do any exercises for her to motivate her. But nothing can break my grandma! She pulled herself up and after 6 months of laying down, a week ago she got up! She sat herself down. Without any help.

There is no power in the world to break human will. If you have it, it does not matter what circumstances are there to go through, you can do it. If my grandma could get up, so can you. Whatever you are dealing with, it is temporary. You can and only you can move yourself into a better reality. Let this post be a reminder.
