This sunday we wanted to have a special meal by going out to get a pizza from Italian restaurant. However, after looking for restaurants, their menus and the delivery charges, we figured out that we can do a better job by making pizza completely from scratch by ourselves! It took me less than 40 minutes and the result was one of the best pizzas I ever had. I am not going to write 2 more pages about how much my husband loved it (he did!). Let’s jump into the recipe!
Ingridients for dough:
- 2.5 cups of flour
- 1 cup of warm water (I put regular water in microwave for 40 sec)
- 1 tea spoon of sugar
- 1 tea spoon of salt
- 1 tea spoon of active dry yeast
- 2 table spoons of olive oil
- Bread crumbs (do not mix them with the rest but place them on the bottom of baking pan before placing the dough – this is the secret to dough not sticking to the pan!)
Ingridients for topings
- 1/2 or 1/3 of big jar of tomato sauce for pasta (I used tomato mushroom)
- 1/2 to 1 cup of freshly grounded parmesan cheese (not to be confused with powder that sold as ‘parmesan substitute’ unless you are vegan)
- 1 cup of shredded cheese – I used a mix of mozarella and marble cheese
- 6 pieces of salami (I used Genoa salami) – optional
- 1/2 cup of fresh argula leafs – optional. Can also be replaced by fresh basil leafs
- Dry oregano
Instructions:
- Turn on the oven at 450F
- Meanwhile mix all ingridients for dough except for bread crumbs by hand until it forms a ball. Set aside
- Take an oven safe pan, place foil on the top, cover with olive oil and spread thin layer of bread crumbs
- Take the dough and make it thin with your hands by trying to make it fill entire pizza pan. You can stretch it with your hands or by placing it down on the pizza pan and using your knuckles.
- Once the dough is on the pan, sprinkle it with parmesan cheese, olive oil and oregano
- Now use spoon to create an even layer of tomato sauce
- Cover tomato sauce with parmesan, cheeseses, place sausage on the top and sprkinkle with more parmesan. Add oregano as well
- Place it in the oven for 18 minutes
- When done, remove from oven and garnish with argula or basil leafs. Let it stand for 3 -5 min before slicing. Serve immediatelly
- This recipe is for 2 people and makes approximately 2 big slices each
