Want change? Do things that scare you.

01.05.11-8-Steps-to-Changing-Jobs-with-a-Current-Employer

If you walk outside and pick a random person to ask him/her if he/she would like her life to be changed, in 9 out 10 cases they will answer yes. However, if you as them whether they are actually doing something different for the change to happen, 9 out of 10 will say no. So what is going on?

The answer is fear. People want change but they also fear it because it means leaving their comfort zone. People fear change, people fear that things they will try won’t work, and also people fear that things they do will work. So how do you address this issue?

The answer is you do not. You should not deal with fear because once you start thinking about it, the moment you consider what might happen if things change, fear has you, it owns you. It is like arguing with sales person about the product they are trying to sell-  you lose the moment you start engaging/responding. This means that you should do what scares you. Period. The more you think about the scary thing, the scarier it becomes, so don’t think about it.

Instead of thinking just go ahead and do something that scares you because that is the only way you move up. Doing one thing that scares you every day brings you more success, more change and more opportunities to learn and grow than you ever imagined. If you do not know whether you should do something or not, whether it is applying for that exciting volunteering position or your dream job, saying yes to a date or trying a new dish – go for it! If thinking about new experience makes you have butterflies in your stomache, definitely go for it! You have only one life, and, as people say, doing nothing has 100% chance to fail. So do the things that scare you because this is the only way to succeed.
