Chocolate banana pie with walnuts

This is basically the upscale version of banana bread – easy and quick to make and only requires basic ingridients. It tastes very nice and goes well as a desert for coffee or tea or even as a breakfast in the morning.

Total time: 1h 10mins (10 minutes to make  the batter and 1h for it to bake).

Ingridients:

  • 2 to 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate powder (I used dark chocolate that is used to make hot chocolate)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter or olive oil
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 ⅓ cups mashed overripe bananas (or 3 bananas)
  • 1/2 cup (standard small package) of greek banana yogurt (or a regular greek yogurt, you can also use sour cream)
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup of Nutella or another chocolate cream of your choice

Directions:

1. Turn on your oven at 350F or 175C

2. Mix all ingridients. I mixed everything except walnuts, nutella and flour in the blender (smoothie cup) and then mixed in flour and walnuts by hand

3. Take a regular pie pan, wipe it with olive oil and put the batter in the oven for 60 minutes. If you like the pie to be more moist you can cover the top with foil for the first 30 minutes

4. Remove the pie from the oven. Check readiness with a fork or toothpick (if it comes out clean then it is ready)

5. Wait 5-10 mins then use the butter knife around the edges to ensure the pie can come out. Turn the pan upside down and the pie will come down on the plate.

6. Smear the pie with nutella or another chocolate cream. You can also put walnuts on top.

We usually have it right away. You can also wait for it to cool down and then keep it in the fridge so it is cold and moist.

Enjoy!

Storage:

Keep in the fridge up to 3 days if you like it to be moist. If you prefer a dry pie you can keep it in microwave for storage.
